Program Overview:

Academic, Internship and Project Related

The City’s Community Service Program offers work assignment to residents of the City of Hawaiian Gardens who are assigned community service for academic (K-12 or college), internship, and civic hours for project related credit. Our program provides placement, follow-up, monitoring and reports to complete community service work.

Volunteer Service

In the spirit of wanting to contribute by giving back to the community, the city offers work assignments to residents who desire to assist the City in carrying out its mission to meet the needs of our culturally diverse and dynamic population. Volunteering with the City provides a rewarding experience, and it gives individuals the chance to meet new people, explore new interests and make a significant contribution to the community! Volunteers work throughout the Human Services and Public Works Departments. Opportunities can range from a few hours occasionally to ongoing jobs which require specific skills and responsibilities.

Program Guidelines and Requirements:

Community service work assignments are made on the basis of a face-to-face interview to determine the individual’s skills, availability and limitations. Individuals are matched with the City’s Recreation and Community Services and/or Public Works Departments to do a wide variety of tasks. All of these tasks enhance the ability of the City to provide services to the community. Interviews are done by appointment and only at the City of Hawaiian Gardens.
