Dandy de Paula was born in La Carlota City, Philippines and public service is inherent to him. Born to public servants - a father who was a chief of police and a mother who was an elementary school teacher, it’s easy to see how he has become a teacher as well.
While finishing his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology in the Philippines, he found his passion to serve in community outreach and church ministry which gave him the opportunity to move to the United States in the year 2000. Dandy has played an essential role in support of the Hawaiian Gardens community for almost two decades. With his distinct servant leadership, he has created avenues and unique opportunities for community members to show their spirit of servitude through various outreach services in the city. He is a three-time recipient of the Standing Ovation Award by ABCUSD and Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition - all for his outstanding community service.
In his twelve years of experience as an educator being the Program Director of a preschool in Hawaiian Gardens, he had the privilege of working with parents to help their children set goals, learn, and grow in skills and confidence.
As a man of faith, He considers that his passion to serve is God’s calling. He is currently an appointed Commissioner of the LA County Human Relations Commission.
De Paula’s passion to serve continues as he commences in his role of elected council member, helping the city become more prosperous and a safer place to live, work, and play.
