As of February 2019, Hawaiian Gardens has the opportunity to enjoy clean and renewable energy at competitive rates, thanks to the City’s new “Clean Power” partnership with the Clean Power Alliance (CPA).
Clean Power Alliance is Southern California’s new, locally operated electricity provider that offers the opportunity for its customers to choose cleaner power at comparable rates. In order to do so, the company sources clean, renewable power (energy gathered from a source that does not deplete when used, such as wind and solar power), then works with Southern California Edison (SCE) to deliver it to residents. Electricity is still delivered, serviced, and billed by SCE, and residents have the opportunity to enjoy cleaner and greener power without disruption to their power supply.
CPA is currently partnered agencies throughout Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. Participating agencies like Hawaiian Gardens are able to customize their program, choosing from three tiers:
- “Lean Power”(36% renewable content at 1-2% cost savings)
- “Clean Power”(50% renewable content at 0-1% cost savings)
- “100% Green Power”(100% renewable energy at an 8-9% cost premium)
In line with Hawaiian Gardens’ support of sustainable initiatives, as well as its dedication to choosing cost-effective options for its residents, the City has chosen the “Clean Power” tier as its default option. Hawaiian Gardens residents and commercial businesses do not need to do anything to enroll in the program; the switch is automatic. Additionally, all operational and service-related issues will still be handled through SCE. So, for instance, if your neighborhood experiences a power-outage, SCE will still handle the repairs.
Though enrollment in “Clean Power” is automatic, residents also have the option to opt-down or up between the “Lean” and “100% Green” options. If you’re unsure which option is right for you, we encourage you to utilize CPA’s bill calculator tool to compare your current rate.
We hope you are as excited about the chance to utilize clean power as we are, however, the choice todo so is completely yours. Residents always have the option to opt-up, opt-down, or opt-out entirely without penalty and keep SCE as their power supplier. To do so, visit the CPA’s opt-out page or call CPA at 888-585-3788. You can also visit the CPA website to learn more about Residential Rate Options.
Residents will receive a total of four mailers from CPA detailing the new service, so be sure to keep an eye on your mailbox. The City will also be hosting an information session during the Jan. 22, 2019 City Council Meeting at 6pm at City Hall (21815 Pioneer Blvd). Residents are encouraged to attend to learn more about Clean Power Alliance and our chosen program.Thank you for joining us on our quest for a cleaner, greener future!
