The Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining all City owned facilities landscaped areas including parks, medians, parkways, sidewalks, street trees and street signs. Our main objective is to provide a quality level of safety throughout the city’s public right-of-way in the most efficient and economical way.

The Hawaiian Gardens Public Works Department endeavors to provide the best possible maintenance services for our residents. If we have missed something that needs to be addressed, please call the Public Works Department at (562) 420-2641 ext. 202.

Areas of Responsibility

Landscaping: City own public facilities and City owned property.
Spraying Pesticide: insect control on City owned properties.
Weed Control: City owned property, City facilities, parks & fields, parkways & medians, and public-right-of-way.
Watering: parks & fields, parkways & median islands, and City owned property.
Fertilizing: maintain healthy landscape at parks & fields, parkways & median islands, and City owned property.
Irrigation: underground watering system upkeep, water heads, timing mechanism, piping/tubing of irrigation system.
Street Tree Trimming and Removal: Removal of damaged trees, on, public right-of-way, parks & fields and/or City owned property.
Tree Planting: replacement of tree in parks & fields, parkways & median islands, and City owned property.
Root Grinding: root grinding after tree has been removed. Mow, Edge, Weed, City Parkway & Median Island: routine manicure of landscape on public-right-of-way.
Sidewalk: repair and replace lifted sidewalks on public-right-of- way on a minimal scale.
Pothole Repairs: temporary pothole patch.
Curb & Gutter: debris clearing of curb & gutter clutter.
Street Barricade Maintenance: distribution or traffic and crowd control devices when required.
Replace Street Signs/ Install Pole and Street Signs: replacement of damaged street signs, stop signs, street name, parking, and other public-right –of-way street signs. Traffic Markings: red curb, no parking zones and other traffic curb markings on public-right-of-way.
Misc. Street Work: miscellaneous labor, coning, traffic control, assistance in traffic control and other unusual assistance.
Alley-Clean Up: removal of illegal debris dumping, weeds, and other illegal dumping debris.
Graffiti Removal: removing graffiti on “Public-Right-Of-Way” only.
Board-Up Vandalism Repairs: the securing of seized property.
Emergency Work (Accident/Spill): toxic spill containment.
Special Events: set up assistance for special events such as parade, Christmas, Cultural events and other relation public City events.
Banners/Flags: the maintenance and displays of all flags and banners.
Special Projects: assisting in emergency disasters, State and County agencies, Law Enforcement, Fire, Public Works, Health Service, and other government agencies.

Graffiti Abatement

The City of Hawaiian Gardens has graffiti removal/tracker system. Graffiti can be reported at the Graffiti Hotline (562) 420-2641 ext 232 or online. When reporting graffiti, it is helpful in expediting removal if the following detailed information is provided: Specific location (i.e., address, corner, major cross streets, etc.), type (i.e., marker, paint, etc.), and surface where graffiti is located (i.e., block wall, painted curb or fence, sign, etc.). Graffiti may also be reported during regular business hours by calling (562) 420-2641 ext 202.
