Nomination Period will NOT be extended. 

Examination Period:  August 8 – August 17, 2020 at 5:00 PM.

NOMINATION INFORMATION AND SUMMARY GUIDELINES    

ELECTION: GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
DATE: TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2020
OFFICE: CITY COUNCIL

SEATS: TWO (2)
TERM: FULL – FOUR (4) YEARS – TERMS END NOVEMBER 2024

SEAT: ONE (1)
TERM: FILL UNEXPIRED VACANCY – TERM ENDS NOVEMBER 2022

NOMINATION PERIOD:
OPENS – MONDAY, JULY 13, 2020 AT 8:00 A.M.
CLOSES – FRIDAY, AUGUST 7, 2020 AT 5:00 P.M.


REQUIREMENTS:

• Nomination Packets (which include Official Forms and documents, including Nomination Form/Paper) are available from the City Clerk’s Office. Please note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, City Hall and City Clerk posted hours are restricted and by appointed only and may be modified at anytime without prior notice.
• Any registered and qualified voter may nominate a candidate by signing and completing the Nomination Papers. The candidate must complete and sign the Nomination Papers to file with the City Clerk.
• The candidate must be a registered voter at the time Nomination Papers are issued.
• Any person registered and qualified to vote at the City of Hawaiian Gardens’ election may circulate the Nomination Paper.
• Only one (1) registered and qualified voter may circulate the Election Nomination Paper.
• Candidates may be nominated by not less than twenty (20) but no more than thirty (30) registered and qualified voters.
• Any registered and qualified voter may sign as many Nomination Papers as there are seats to be filled. Signatures submitted on a subsequent petition shall not be allowed.
• For the City of Hawaiian Gardens General Municipal Election to be held on November 3, 2020, there are two (2) seats for the City Council each for four (4) year terms to be filled and which end in 2024; AND one (1) seat for the City Council unexpired vacancy to end in 2022.
• Nomination Form and other required documents must be filed with the City Clerk’s Office by no later than the close of the Nomination Period.
