Outdoor Dining and Personal Care Program for City Businesses; Information and Permit Application
NewsTranslate Smaller Text PrintShare

The City has modified restrictions for local businesses to allow them to continue operating safely during COVID-19. This program allows local restaurants and personal care services (see related County Protocol here) to temporarily establish outdoor seating outside of their establishment (not extending on public right of way). Applications must be submitted to the Hawaiian Gardens Community Development Department and include a site plan. Establishments that have a license from ABC must obtain a temporary outdoor use permit from ABC.

The outdoor area must:

  • Be on private property located adjacent to or nearby the business. If the business has onsite parking, a portion of the private parking may be used for outdoor dining/seating;
  • not exceed the area needed to compensate for the loss of capacity of the interior area of the business to achieve social distancing;
  • be bounded by removable barriers erected on its exterior perimeters;
  • be approved by the Director of the Community Development Department.
