The primary objective of city government is the safety and security of our residents. A variety of services and tools are used to achieve this vital objective. The City Council is committed to increasing security and safety for all, and has allocated an increasing portion of the budget towards this goal. The Safety Commission is also responsible for security issues and is an additional conduit between the residents and the City Council and government.

The City of Hawaiian Gardens contracts with the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department to provide law enforcement services. The city employs internal officers to enforce the city's civil codes and regulations. There is a neighborhood watch program in place which is overseen by the Sheriff's department. Los Angeles Department of Animal care and control is contracted to provide services to the City. Most vital to the safety and security of our city is the involvement of residents in the community.

Neighborhood Watch meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month, second floor meeting room of the Public Safety Center.

On January 7 th, 2009, the City of Hawaiian Gardens Library and Public Safety Center was officially opened to the public. Currently, the Public Safety Center is staffed by a Special Assignment Sergeant, three deputies from the Hawaiian Gardens SAO Team, and a Community Service Assistant (CSA). The Public Safety Center is also utilized by Hawaiian Gardens patrol deputies to contact citizens for report calls, write reports, and conduct interviews with citizens.

The Hawaiian Gardens SAO Team consists of three highly trained and experienced deputies. The deputies are trained in all aspects of Community Based Policing techniques. They are responsible for long-term investigations and addressing quality of life issues. The SAO deputies are well versed in implementing long term solutions for combating gang and drug activity.

The Community Service Assistant has been trained to take both
000 non-workable criminal and non-criminal reports. The Safety Center desk is equipped with a CAD terminal, which enables the
Community Service Assistant to enter calls for service, which are forwarded to Lakewood Station for dispatching to Hawaiian Gardens patrol units. The Community Service Assistant is also trained in crime prevention techniques.

The purpose of the Public Safety Center is to provide the citizens of Hawaiian Gardens a safe location where they can go to report crimes in their neighborhoods, interact with patrol deputies, and receive crime prevention information. Residents of Hawaiian Gardens can go to the Public Safety Center to file all types of reports, provide information to deputies, and also report any quality of life issue that may be affecting their neighborhood. The Public Safety Center also acts as the venue where Neighborhood and Business Watch meetings are held on a monthly basis.
