Ernie Hernandez was appointed City Manager on January 3, 2017.  Mr. Hernandez’s municipal management experience spans more than 17 years.   Most recently, from 2007 to 2016, Hernandez served as Deputy City Manager for the City of Norwalk where he provided leadership and direction on administrative and operational functions, as well as special projects and programs.  His responsibilities included oversight of the city administrative operations, development of short term and longer term plans, negotiation of employee labor contracts, risk management, and management and coordination of major projects and programs.
From 1999 to 2007, Mr. Hernandez worked for the cities of Santa Ana, Long Beach and South El Monte where he held progressively more responsible administrative and executive management positions.  As a member of the city’s management team, he provided leadership and a collaborative, team-orientated approach to defining and finding solutions to issues affecting the organization.

Hernandez holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Long Beach State University, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the California State University Dominguez Hills.  Mr. Hernandez is proud to have served in the United States Army.
