Housing Overview

The Housing Division administers a wide variety of housing programs that contribute to the quality of life, economic viability, and sustainability of Hawaiian Garden’s neighborhoods. The Housing Division is responsible for the overall management and oversight of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Residential Rehabilitation Program, Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, and other housing programs. The Housing Division has also partnered with Habitat for Humanity and Grid Alternatives to administer their affordable housing programs

Economic Development Overview

Economic Development supports economic growth in Hawaiian Gardens. It services include new business recruitment, technical assistance for existing Hawaiian Gardens businesses, business retention, and site selection assistance for new and existing businesses. The primary goals of Economic Development are to improve businesses opportunities, increase the tax revenue, and improve employment opportunities in the City.

The guiding principles for Economic Development provide direction for the City in economic development planning in Hawaiian Gardens.

  • Encourage a diversified mix of commercial businesses that enrich the community and provide a variety of shopping opportunities.
  • Develop a vibrant pedestrian-oriented Downtown area that serves residents and visitors.
  • Encourage the continued revitalization of the commercial base of the City.
