The Senior Center was dedicated December 31, 1992 and was named after a resident who was an exceptional citizen as a volunteer and a Ceramics Instructor, to provide a place where seniors could come and improve the quality of their lives.

Senior Advisory Board

The following Senior Advisory Board members are serving a two year term from March 3, 2016 thru February 6, 2020:

If you have any suggestions or comments that could make our senior center a better place you may present them at our meetings held on the 1st Thursday of the month (unless scheduled differently on our calendars).

Monthly Calendars / Excursions

Senior Nutrition Program

The Mary Rodriguez Senior Center in conjunction with the Human Services Association’s congregate meal program, offers seniors ages 60 and over a hot, nutritionally-balanced meal five days a week. Program registration is required prior to participation, if you would like more information please contact Human Services Association congregate meal site manager at (562) 420-2641 ext. 238

Home Delivered Meals

The City of Hawaiian Gardens contracts with the Human Services Association to provide a nutritious home delivered meal Monday thru Friday (excluding holidays). To qualify the senior must be 60 years and older and homebound.

Food Boxes

The Mary Rodriguez Senior Center has partnered with the Community Action Partnership of Orange County to provide monthly food boxes for our low income seniors’ ages 60 years and older (must qualify under federal assistance guidelines). If you are interested in participating in the food box program, please contact the senior center staff for more information at (562) 420-2641 ext. 205.

These income guidlines are 130% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines published annual by DH/HS.


Do you know that you may qualify for CalFresh benefits? (Previously known as food stamps) The Department of Public Social Services is available to assist with applications the 1st working Monday of each month inside the senior lounge at 10:00 am. To complete your CalFresh application, please bring the following information for all household applicants:

  • Personal Identification (CA Drivers license, CA DMV Identification, etc…)
  • Social Security number
  • Proof of Income
  • Proof of Expenses

Arts & Crafts

Most Mondays we get together in the craft room to learn a new craft, knit or Crochet after the lunch program. Please check our Monthly calendar for days.


Pool tables are open Monday thru Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.


Most Thursdays after lunch we have our Bingo. So come and join your friends for an afternoon of fun. Please check our Monthly calendar for days.

Senior Computers, Conference Room and Lounge

Senior computers, Senior Conference Room and Senior Lounge are all open spaces where seniors are able relax (unless the room is reserved). Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
