Sandbag Availability

The City of Hawaiian Gardens has made sandbags available to City residents during winter storms or rain events.

Up to ten (10) pre-filled sandbags are available per household and are for residents only. Sandbags are available at the Mary Rodriguez Senior Center Parking lot (21815 Pioneer Blvd. Hawaiian Gardens, CA) between 6:30am and 3:30pm Monday – Friday.

Placing the bags:
The side of the bag that is tied-closed should face the direction of water flow. Stomp each bag into place and stagger the layers like you would with bricks. The base of your sandbag barrier should be 1.5 times wider than the height. In areas where water could rise with no current, lay plastic on the ground and up to the walls and form a pyramid of sandbags.

After the storm:
Dispose of your used sandbags properly. When you’re done using the sandbags, empty the sand in your garden or yard. If the bags are in good condition, you can save them to refill for future use.
