The City of Hawaiian Gardens Public Housing Authority is offering financial assistance to anyone who owns one or two single family residence on a single parcel and wants to rehabilitate the exterior of their home or provide for exterior improvements. Condominiums only qualify for interior improvements. Program funding is available one time only.

SINGLE FAMILY, DUPLEXES, AND CONDOS are eligible for grants up to $15,000

  • • Absentee Landlords are eligible for a 70% rebate of projects, where the rebate is not to exceed grant funds of $15,000.
  • Illegal structures that cannot be permitted must be demolished in order to bring properties into compliance.
  • Applicants who withdraw from the Program due to Code violations will be referred to Code Enforcement to ensure compliance.
  • The age of the home must be more than ten (10) years.
  • Homes for sale or under construction are ineligible.
  • Grants up to $15,000 for exterior improvements for single family dwelling; condos only qualify for interior assistance.
  • Grants up to $2,500 are also available to owners in financial hardship for emergency cases.
  • Grants up to $25,000 may be provided for substandard dwellings determined by City’s building inspector.
  • Grants may not be combined with other financial assistance under this Program.

MOBILE HOMES are eligible for grants up to $7000.

  • • Absentee Landlords are eligible for a 70% rebate of projects, where the rebate is not to exceed grant funds of $7,000.
  • Mobile homes are eligible for financial assistance every five (5) years for both the interior and exterior of the property.
  • Illegal structures that cannot be permitted must be demolished in order to bring properties into compliance.
  • Applicants who withdraw from the Program due to Code violations will be referred to Code Enforcement to ensure compliance.
  • The age of the home must be more than ten (10) years.
  • Grants up to $2,500 are also available to owners in financial hardship for emergency cases.
