Department Overview

The Community Development Department plays an essential role in the development, improvement, and maintenance of the physical environment in Hawaiian Gardens. The Department provides the following services:

  • Supplies information on planning, zoning, and housing programs;
  • Reviews and process all new development proposals;
  • Issues building permits and conducts inspections for new construction;
  • Enforces the Municipal Code and correct code violations;
  • Coordinates housing assistance and rehabilitation programs;
  • Implements capital improvement and infrastructure projects; and
  • Provides assistance to the City Manager, City Attorney, Planning Commission, City Council and the general public.

Mission Statement

The Community Development Department is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Hawaiian Gardens by implementing programs and establishing standards that improve the physical environment of the City and promote the health, safety, and general welfare of the community.

Counter Hours:

Monday: 8:00 am to 11:00 am
Tuesday: 8:00 am to 11:00 am
Wednesday: 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Thursday: 8:00 am to 11:00 am
