Betty was born on September 9, 1935 in Waco Texas,
where she completed her studies at Paso Robles High
School. She married Don Schultze on July 11, 1953
and moved to Hawaiian Gardens in 1962, two years
before it was yet to become Hawaiian Gardens. There
was a large lot to build a home on, and she loves
living here because “its like family. “
Mrs. Schultze has 6 children, 19 grandchildren,
and 4 great-grandchildren. She has worked as a
housewife, mother, and bookkeeper for Schultze
Carpenter Service. Her volunteer activities includes
work for the Cancer awareness foundation, the
Hawaiian Gardens Lionettes Club, Hawaiian Gardens
Football for youth, Artesia High School Booster
Club, G.O. P., March of Dimes, Hawaiian Gardens
Golf Tournament as well as working Election polls.
Betty Schultze was also Team Mother for the Hawaiian
Gardens Little league, Vice President of A.B.C.
Bobby Sox Softball, All Star Coach of the Cerwood
Bobby Sox Softball and a member of the Melbourne
Elementary School PTA. Her hobbies include Golf
and Bowling and has a little known passion for
collecting figurines.
When her husband, the late Mayor and Council
member Don Schultze passed away in 1998, Betty
took over his position to “continue what
he started”. She has helped in the building
of the Hawaiian Gardens Casino and supported policies
to make the city more business friendly. Issues
she plans to work on in the future include; safer
streets, more care for seniors, more youth programs,
a new Library, a Sheriff’s sub-station in
the city as well as continue to make the city
more business friendly.
Her motto is: Treat
people right, take care of family and treat everyone
as a friend." |
