Mike was born in Visalia Ca. in 1950. His family moved to Artesia Ca. in 1952. He graduated from Artesia High School in 1969 and soon after was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1970. After his discharge from the Army Michael Gomez attended Cerritos College and earned an AA Degree in Sociology.
In 1975 Mike married Rosi Rodriguez, whose family has lived in Hawaiian Gardens since 1957. In 1978 they purchased their home in Hawaiian Gardens where they raised their own 3 children. Mike believes strongly in the value of education and feels that his 2 daughters were able to go to college and earn Masters Degrees in large part due to the dedication of the teachers and staff at Fedde Middle School and Artesia High School.
Prior to becoming a Council Member, Mike served the community as a member of:
-City of Hawaiian Gardens Public Safety Commission
-City of Hawaiian Gardens General Plan Advisory Board
-St. Peter Channel Church (Usher)
-Pharis Fedde Middle School Site Council
-Hawaiian Gardens Little League (Past President/Board Member)
-Hawaiian Gardens Lions Club
Mike believes that as a Council Member his most important responsibility to the people he represents is to provide for their safety and ability to enjoy all of the benefits this community has to offer. He wants to create an atmosphere of trust between the residents and Council. He wants to improve the image of our schools so that our families can be confident that their children will receive a quality education locally. His goals also include improving the image of the City so that Hawaiian Gardens is recognized as the best city in the county to reside in.
