CITY ELECTIONS

Pursuant to the Hawaiian Gardens Municipal Code (Ch. 2.04), the City’s general municipal elections are held on the first Tuesday, following the first Monday of November of odd-numbered years.

REGISTER TO VOTE

To register to vote, you must be qualified and must complete a voter registration form. The deadline to register to vote in an election is at least 15 days prior to the election. Voter registration forms are available at City Hall, as well as other government offices including the U. S. Post Office and the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s Office, during regular business hours. To have a form mailed to you, please contact the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s Office, 24-hours at (800) 481-VOTE, x:8683,

In compliance with the Voting Rights Act, The Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s Office provides the voter registration forms in seven languages: English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Tagalog and Korean.

ABSENTEE OR PERMANENT ABSENTEE VOTER

ABSENTEE VOTER APPLICATION

If a voter is unable to vote in person at the designated polling location on election day for a specific election, they may apply and request to vote absentee upto seven (7) days prior to the election date. The voter would complete an application for a specific election and must sign the application. The voter will then receive a ballot in the mail. The voted ballot may be returned by mail or it may be returned on election day to the proper polling location.

PERMANENT VOTER APPLICATION

If a voter is unable to vote in person at the designated polling location on election day for a specific election, they may apply and request to be placed as a Permanent Absentee Voter. The voter would complete an application for a Permanent Absentee Voter and must sign the application. The voter will then receive a ballot in the mail for every election. The voted ballot may be returned by mail or it may be returned on election day to the proper polling location. A Permanent Absentee Voter is only required to apply once and does not need to request an absentee ballot for each election. However, if a voter does not vote for two (2) consecutive statewide general elections, they will be removed as voters.

MILITARY & OVERSEAS VOTER INFORMATION

Members of the military, their families or U.S. Citizens living overseas have a right to vote. These voters may apply and request an Absentee ballot and may vote as Absentee Voters. For additional information, please contact the Los Angeles County Registrar Recorder/County Clerk’s Office.

PRECINCT WORKERS/ POLL LOCATIONS

Election Precinct workers are always needed. If you are interested in serving, please contact the Hawaiian Gardens City Clerk’s Office or the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s Office at (888) 338-VOTE, (562) 462-2748, option 7. There is a need for bi-lingual precinct workers in Spanish and Korean.

Precinct Workers are trained by Los Angeles County, they are paid for the training and for their service on Election Day. The City of Hawaiian Gardens provides breakfast, lunch and dinner at no cost to the Precinct Workers that serve at polling locations in our City.

Election poll locations are often needed. If you wish to have your home or business be an election voting site, please contact the Hawaiian Gardens City Clerk’s Office or the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s Office at (888) 338-VOTE, (562) 462-2748, option 7. There is a need for bi-lingual precinct workers.
